Can you please explain to me why this photo is so bad up close? When you zoom in it’s horrible. Is that just caused from being too far away and cropping so much? Is there any way to fix that? 1/6400, f7.1, iso 2500
Kristina: It looks like there is a lot of high ISO noise that is causing the problem. Noise will be worse in shadow areas. You might have been able to shoot at a slower speed and lower the iso.
I have a similar thought … With a very high ISO the camera’ sensor is being told to amplify signals it gets from light striking its tiny sensors. To a degree depending on the camera, that amplifies signals from the adjoining sensors, resulting in “noise”.
What camera, lens were used. You might do some reading of reviews for that camera to see what reviewers say about the practical ISO limits of the camera are.
To what degree was the image zoomed in-camera or cropped in post processing? Either of those will exaggerate the noise effect.
The lower the ISO the less noise. The lower the speed the lower the noise. Your settings are WAY high.
I would have been shooting this subject at no more than 1/500 or 1/1000 of a second. Bud
Kristina, What are the megapixels of your camera? Also, the iso of 2500 is a bit high I would think. I know you need it ‘higher’ for the quick shutter though, but how high is enough. Also, I do not know how far in you cropped. If it was quite a bit that is part of the problem. It’s most likely a combination of iso and your cropping. The f stop seems fine to me. Hope this helps some. If I can help further, please let me know, Doug
Since I’m using a 600 mm I know I have to be at 1/1200. The megapixels are 36.3 for my Nikon d800e. The lens may not be great, it’s a Tamron 150-600 mm. I may have been shooting on “P” mode so when I go back I will shoot in manual.
Normally it seems as though I don’t have enough light and a lot of noise so I was trying to make sure I didn’t have that problem this time. I haven’t done much bird photography.
