I submitted a version of this to a recent online club competition. Then last night, I looked at a photo by DeWitt Jones, and decided that the image was still too boring, so the first attached image is an increased-contrast version. Prior image also posted.
Personally I really like the increased contrast in the foreground. Clouds are darker also and that appeals to me.
I would like the mountains, mainly the first part, to be lightened and brighten. That would bring your eyes into the center and then allow them to circulate through the image.
Very nice image. Bud
Thanks @Williamharris Bud. I liked the idea of pulling eyes more to the center. I had a hard time lightening the notch hillsides much as there was not much contrast, so I lost detail.
How does this revision look.
I think each image is better than the previous one ! Bud
Well, since you are still working on it,… dodge the right bottom side of the mountains by the valley too ! Bud
Dick: I agree with Bud. I really like the image with more contrast.
Thanks. I finally realized that I initially strove to convey the nuance in the scene but simplify it a bit in BW. But read the other day that BW is usually better used to convey strong distinctions and feelings, not nuance. So pursued that direction, encouraged by @Williamharris and you.
